Donor Card

I blink myself awake,
my foot is wanting
to scratch my ear.
A man in a white coat
with matching white hair
appears like a magician

How are you feeling?

His voice is rhetorical

he says
you were involved in a serious accident
and clinically you died and your body
was damaged beyond salvage
however
we managed to save your head
and have transplanted it onto the body of a dog

I must be dreaming

he produces a mirror from somewhere 
in his white coat

I look at myself
my head
on the body
of a brown dog

I remember carrying that card:
in the event of my death
I donate my body to science

I open my mouth to scream
but all that comes out is a howl.
