Draize Eye Test

So I take this  rabbit
she’s an albino
just a baby
her fur is pristine
like snow on a mountaintop.

I have to test  a new chemical
to be used in a new sunscreen.

Now I’m going to put her in a restraint
it’s basically a box
with a hole for the head to poke out
she doesn’t resist
it’s her first time.

I clip her eyelid open

Her eye is so big and clear and red

Her soul looks back at me and I think
you don’t understand
I’m going to drop
concentrated amounts
of this chemical
right
into
your
eye.

Rabbits don’t have tear ducts.

I’m going to check her
after
