I move I talk out of time I think I worry I’ll be just fine I grab at hope I grieve it doesn’t make sense I whisper I cheat I spill piss in the drain I cower and crawl I change I listen to what I get I feel numb I swerve I realise what I got is not enough. this is the 3rd dub poem in a series that use the U2 album Zooropa, as their base material. This piece uses elements of the song "Numb"
That album hit at the exact moment when I really started to think hard about writing. And it’s U2s most literary record. And it felt global and contemporary and weirdly digital… so it felt like a way to be a contemporary writer. Of course all of this was totally internal…hidden from the world. But I was really into it. And it came out during the summer I interned at a Manhattan literary publisher. So that’s the one, the soundtrack for my experience of the digital revolution. And there are probably little edits throughout my own writing.
